Between Empty

Between Empty is a narrative exploration game and multiplayer XR experience set in a world where every being is made of mirrors. These mirror bodies have no stable “inside”; they only know themselves through whatever falls onto their surfaces – light, colour, images, other people’s gazes. Existence is measured in reflections: what is seen, tracked, or named feels real, and what falls into darkness risks evaporating.

As a player, you inhabit one of these mirror beings and move through a landscape saturated with signals. Mirror shards embedded in your body – and scattered throughout the environment – act as both armour and openings: they decide which parts of the world you admit, and which parts of you are exposed to others. Removing a shard doesn’t just change your outline; it alters what you can perceive and how legible you are to the systems and figures around you.

The project is, at heart, a philosophical game about a self assembled from external inputs. It takes the contemporary feeling of being constantly reachable – every opinion, image and metric pushed up to your face – and exaggerates it into a literal condition: a world where beings have learned to live without an inner core, relying on reflections, recognition and data trails to feel that they exist at all.

  • Integrated AI-driven 3D modeling to create all abstract stone formations within the dark environment, with custom material refinement.
